Our Commitment to Alberta

Alberta Lottery Play is licensed by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC). We are dedicated to promoting responsible play practices, offering tools for self-control, and supporting initiatives that address gambling harm within our province.

Understanding Problem Gambling

Problem gambling is when the enjoyment stops and play begins to negatively impact any part of your life—financial, emotional, social, or professional.

Warning signs may include:

  • Spending more time or money than intended.
  • Chasing losses to win back money.
  • Lying to friends or family about gambling.
  • Neglecting work, family, or personal responsibilities.
  • Feeling irritable or anxious when trying to reduce play.
  • Using gambling as a way to escape problems.

Your Play Smart Toolkit

We provide practical tools to help you manage your play on our platform:

  • Pre-Commitment Limits: Set firm limits on deposits, losses, or time played per day, week, or month before you start.
  • Activity Statements & Reality Checks: Track your play history and receive periodic session reminders.
  • Self-Assessment: Take a confidential, 5-minute quiz to reflect on your play habits.
  • Take a Break (Cooling-Off): Temporarily suspend your account for 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or 180 days.
  • Self-Exclusion: If you need a longer-term solution, you can request a self-exclusion from all AGLC-licensed sites for a minimum period of 6 months or more.

How to Activate Tools:

Log into your account, visit ‘My Profile’ > ‘Responsible Play Settings’. Limits take effect immediately. Increasing or removing a limit requires a mandatory 24-hour cooling-off period.

Smart Play Principles

  • Play for Fun, Not Income: Treat lottery play as paid entertainment, not a financial strategy.
  • Set a Budget & Stick to It: Only use discretionary funds. Never use money meant for bills, groceries, or rent.
  • Time is Part of the Budget: Decide how long you’ll play and set an alarm.
  • Know the Game: Understand that outcomes are random. There is no "system" to beat the odds.
  • Balance Your Life: Ensure gambling is just one of many leisure activities.
  • Don't Chase Losses: Accept that losing is part of the game. The goal is to have fun while you play.
